As the Tower-Soudan Historical Society expanded its work from establishing the Tower Train Depot Museum in the city park to renovating the Historic Fire Hall at 504 Main Street, a new opportunity emerged—bringing history directly into the heart of downtown. From this vision, History Talks on Main Street was born.
One of the highlights of the summer season, these gatherings invite audiences to step inside Main Street businesses and community spaces to experience local history in an intimate and engaging way. Crowds come together to hear stories about the people, places, and enterprises that shaped Tower—past to present.
Held during the summer, the series features guest speakers from the community who share fascinating stories, thoughtful research, and personal recollections. These talks focus on the lives of everyday people, offering rich insights into local heritage. Presenters may explore a wide range of topics—from the history of a particular business or building, to stories of miners, tradesmen, Lake Vermilion pioneers, and community leaders.
Business owners often share the history of their buildings, while descendants of prominent local families bring their own stories to life. Each presentation helps connect generations, highlighting the importance of preserving and sharing the unique history of our hometown.
Through History Talks on Main Street, the Tower-Soudan Historical Society continues its mission to celebrate the people, places, and stories that define the community.
